ContentCreator Feature Configuration
Reference (Tailored UI)

Overview

The CXT ContentCreator: Feature Configuration allows administrators to customize which ContentCreator functions are available to users. This capability is commonly referred to as Tailored UI — adapting the user interface to project-specific requirements.

What is Tailored UI?

Tailored UI enables you to:

• Hide features that editors don't need
• Restrict certain functions to specific user groups
• Simplify the ContentCreator interface for different roles
• Disable features while keeping them visible (grayed out)

Configuration Levels

Priority: Project-level settings override server-level settings.

Availability Options

Each feature can be configured with one of the following availability states:

Important Notes

• Unavailable hides the feature from the interface entirely
• Disabled keeps the feature visible but non-functional (grayed out)
• Some features do not support the "Disabled" state
• Group restrictions allow fine-grained control based on FirstSpirit user groups

Feature Groups

Features are organized into 7 categories that correspond to different areas of the ContentCreator interface:

Toolbar Features

Complete listing of all configurable feature identifiers across all 7 feature groups — Toolbar, Navigation, Preview, Report, Status, MediaManagement, and EntityManagement.

The toolbar is the horizontal menu bar at the top of ContentCreator. It contains navigation, editing actions, dropdown menus, tool icons, and the status indicator.

Navigation Features

The navigation area appears on the left side of ContentCreator, providing access to the page tree, site structure, and breadcrumb navigation.

Preview Features

Preview features control the inline editing experience. These features determine what actions editors can perform directly in the preview area without leaving the content view.

Report Features

Report features control the right-side report panel, which provides dashboards, search results, workflow tasks, history, and other contextual information panels.

Status Features

Status features control how workflow and release status are displayed in the top-right area of ContentCreator.

MediaManagement Features

Media management features control the media handling interface, which appears when editors access the media management panel or upload files.

EntityManagement Features

Entity management features control data source and dataset handling within ContentCreator's data source dialog.

Toolbar Layout (Left to Right)

Visual diagrams showing where each feature group appears in the ContentCreator interface. Use this reference to identify which feature IDs control which UI elements.

The ContentCreator toolbar is organized into the following sections from left to right:

   • Back/Forward arrows for history navigation
   • Breadcrumb path showing current location

   • Undo (↶) — Reverts last change
   • Redo (↷) — Restores undone change
   • Save — Persists current changes

Navigation Panel (Left Side)

The navigation panel appears on the left side of ContentCreator and provides a hierarchical tree view of the project structure.

Report Panel (Right Side)

The report panel is docked on the right side of ContentCreator and provides contextual information, tasks, and navigation history.

Preview Area

The preview area occupies the main central region of ContentCreator. Inline editing controls appear when editors hover over or interact with content sections.

Scenario 1: Simplified Editor View

Practical configuration examples for common use cases, plus the JSON export format for backing up or transferring feature configurations between projects.

Goal: Reduce interface complexity for basic content editors who only need to edit existing content.

Features to Set as Unavailable

Result: Cleaner interface focused purely on content editing without administrative functions.

Scenario 2: Read-Only Review Mode

Goal: Allow stakeholders to preview and review content without editing capability.

Features to Set as Unavailable

Result: Users can browse and preview content but cannot make any modifications.

Scenario 3: Media-Restricted Editor

Goal: Prevent editors from uploading or managing media files (media provided by a separate team).

JSON Fields Explained

Feature Not Appearing Despite Being "Available"

Diagnose and resolve common issues with Feature Configuration settings. Each section covers possible causes and step-by-step resolution instructions.

Possible Causes

1. Server-level override: Check server-wide Feature Configuration Service
2. Missing module: Feature requires a module that's not installed
3. Permissions: User lacks required FirstSpirit permissions
4. Context mismatch: Feature only appears in specific contexts (e.g., on pages, not media)

Resolution Steps

1. Verify in ServerManager > Server > Modules > Feature Configuration Service
2. Check module installation status
3. Review user group memberships
4. Test with an administrator account

Feature Shows as "Disabled" But Should Be "Available"

Possible Causes

1. Inheritance: Server-level sets it as Disabled
2. Configuration conflict: Multiple configurations conflicting
3. Feature dependency: Another required feature is unavailable

Resolution Steps

1. Check both project and server-level configurations
2. Set explicitly to "Available" at project level to override server defaults
3. Verify dependent features are also set to Available

Changes Not Taking Effect

Possible Causes

1. Cache: Browser or server cache retaining old configuration
2. Session: User session started before configuration change
3. Not saved: Configuration changes not saved in ServerManager

Resolution Steps

1. Clear browser cache
2. Have user log out and back in to start a fresh session
3. Verify configuration was saved — check for an asterisk (*) in the ServerManager tab title, which indicates unsaved changes
